Japan has a very high suicide rate

In 2011 around 28,896 suicides occurred in Japan, 658 less than in 2010. In 2011, on average 79 Japanese committed suicide every day.

Japan reported 22.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Japan has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 28,896 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 19,904 were men suicides and 8,992 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 32 per 100,000 men and for women 13.7 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Japan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 442 homicides in Japan, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 65.4 suicides.
