There are 81 suicides per day in Japan

In 2010 occurred 29,554 suicides in Japan. This year, 1,153 fewer people committed suicide than in 2009. In 2010, on average 81 Japanese committed suicide every day.

Japan had 23.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.89 suicides per 100,000 people.

Japan has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 29,554 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 21,028 were men suicides and 8,526 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 33.7 per 100,000 men and for women 13 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Japan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 465 homicides in Japan, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 63.6 suicides.
