Japan is a country with a high rate of suicide.
Of the 20,088 recorded suicide cases in 1990, 12,316 were men suicides and 7,772 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20.3 per 100,000 men and for women 12.4 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Japan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 676 homicides in Japan, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 29.7 suicides.
