Jamaica has a low suicide rate

In 2010 around 14 suicides occurred in Jamaica, 15 less than in 2009.

Jamaica reported 0.51 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Jamaica has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 14 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 12 were men suicides and 2 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 0.86 per 100,000 men and for women 0.16 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Jamaica. However, in Jamaica in 2010 there were there were 1,447 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 103.4 homicides per suicide.
