There are 11 suicides per day in Italy

In 2011 around 4,156 suicides occurred in Italy, 167 more than in 2010. In 2011, on average 11 Italians committed suicide every day.

Italy reported 6.81 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.82 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 4,156 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 3,293 were men suicides and 863 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.1 per 100,000 men and for women 2.78 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Italy suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 552 homicides in Italy, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 7.5 suicides.
