Italy - Intentional self-harm

In 1994 occurred 4,519 suicides in Italy. This year, 178 fewer people committed suicide than in 1993. In 1994, on average 12 Italians committed suicide every day.

Italy had 7.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.83 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Italy has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 4,519 recorded suicide cases in 1994, 3,411 were men suicides and 1,108 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.4 per 100,000 men and for women 3.8 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Italy suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 969 homicides in Italy, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.7 suicides.
