Italy - Intentional self-harm

In 1990 occurred 4,402 suicides in Italy. This year, 60 more people committed suicide than in 1989. In 1990, on average 12 Italians committed suicide every day.

Italy had 7.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.95 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Italy has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 4,402 recorded suicide cases in 1990, 3,181 were men suicides and 1,221 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.6 per 100,000 men and for women 4.2 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Italy suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 1,794 homicides in Italy, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.5 suicides.
