Ireland had 11.81 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.87 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 542 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 446 were men suicides and 96 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 19.7 per 100,000 men and for women 4.05 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ireland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 51 homicides in Ireland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 10.6 suicides.
