Suicides increase in Ireland

In 2011 occurred 554 suicides in Ireland. This year, 64 more people committed suicide than in 2010. In Ireland, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Ireland had 12.05 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 554 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 458 were men suicides and 96 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20.12 per 100,000 men and for women 4.12 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ireland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 42 homicides in Ireland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 13.2 suicides.
