Suicides increase in Ireland

In 1991 occurred 345 suicides in Ireland. This year, 11 more people committed suicide than in 1990.

Ireland had 9.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.11 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Ireland, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 345 recorded suicide cases in 1991, 282 were men suicides and 63 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16 per 100,000 men and for women 3.5 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ireland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 23 homicides in Ireland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 15 suicides.
