Number of suicides increases in Iraq

In 2011 around 859 suicides occurred in Iraq, 50 more than in 2010. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Iraq reported 2.71 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.82 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Iraq, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 859 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 486 were men suicides and 374 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 3.01 per 100,000 men and for women 2.3 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Iraq. However, in Iraq in 2011 there were there were 2,634 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 3.1 homicides per suicide.
