By 2012, suicides in Iran increased by 424 people to at 2,890 suicides In 2012, on average 8 Iranians committed suicide every day.

In Iran there were 3.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.87 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 2,890 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 1,720 were men suicides and 1,170 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 4.38 per 100,000 men and for women 3.07 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Iran suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 2,215 homicides in Iran, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.3 suicides.
