In 1995 around 3,369 suicides occurred in Hungary, 256 less than in 1994. In 1995, on average 9 Hungarians committed suicide every day.
Hungary reported 32.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.58 suicides per 100,000 people.
Hungary has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 3,369 recorded suicide cases in 1995, 2,478 were men suicides and 891 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 50.2 per 100,000 men and for women 16.5 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Hungary suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 296 homicides in Hungary, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 11.4 suicides.
