Number of suicides increases in Honduras

In 2012 around 282 suicides occurred in Honduras, 5 more than in 2011.

Honduras reported 3.26 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.87 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Honduras, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 282 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 184 were men suicides and 98 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 4.15 per 100,000 men and for women 2.24 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Honduras. However, in Honduras in 2012 there were there were 7,172 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 25.4 homicides per suicide.
