Suicides increase in Haiti

In 2011 occurred 1,050 suicides in Haiti. This year, 87 more people committed suicide than in 2010. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Haiti had 10.55 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,050 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 766 were men suicides and 284 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.49 per 100,000 men and for women 5.66 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Haiti suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 914 homicides in Haiti, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
