Guyana has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 209 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 152 were men suicides and 57 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 41.09 per 100,000 men and for women 15.18 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Guyana suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 139 homicides in Guyana, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.5 suicides.
