Guyana has a very high suicide rate

In 2011 around 213 suicides occurred in Guyana, 19 more than in 2010.

Guyana reported 28.18 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Guyana has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 213 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 164 were men suicides and 49 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 44.25 per 100,000 men and for women 13.19 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Guyana suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 130 homicides in Guyana, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.6 suicides.
