Suicides decreased in Guatemala

In 2010 around 454 suicides occurred in Guatemala, 96 less than in 2009. In Guatemala, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Guatemala reported 3.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Guatemala, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 454 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 340 were men suicides and 114 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 4.81 per 100,000 men and for women 1.58 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Guatemala. However, in Guatemala in 2010 there were there were 5,960 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 13.1 homicides per suicide.
