Ghana - Intentional self-harm

In 2012 occurred 1,718 suicides in Ghana. This year, 80 more people committed suicide than in 2011. In 2012, on average 5 Ghanaians committed suicide every day.

Ghana had 6.64 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.87 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,718 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 1,336 were men suicides and 382 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.98 per 100,000 men and for women 2.84 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ghana suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 560 homicides in Ghana, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.1 suicides.
