In 1996 occurred 12,225 suicides in Germany. This year, 663 fewer people committed suicide than in 1995. In 1996, on average 33 Germans committed suicide every day.

Germany had 14.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.06 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Germany is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 12,225 recorded suicide cases in 1996, 8,728 were men suicides and 3,497 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21.9 per 100,000 men and for women 8.3 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Germany suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 1,923 homicides in Germany, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 6.4 suicides.
