France has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 11,279 recorded suicide cases in 1996, 8,174 were men suicides and 3,105 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 28.2 per 100,000 men and for women 10.1 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In France suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 1,171 homicides in France, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 9.6 suicides.
