Finland has a very high suicide rate

In 1996 around 1,247 suicides occurred in Finland, 141 less than in 1995. In 1996, on average 3 Finns committed suicide every day.

Finland reported 24.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.06 suicides per 100,000 people.

Finland has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,247 recorded suicide cases in 1996, 965 were men suicides and 282 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 38.7 per 100,000 men and for women 10.7 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Finland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 153 homicides in Finland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 8.2 suicides.
