In 1992 occurred 1,451 suicides in Finland. This year, 42 fewer people committed suicide than in 1991. In 1992, on average 4 Finns committed suicide every day.

Finland had 28.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.38 suicides per 100,000 people.

Finland has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,451 recorded suicide cases in 1992, 1,156 were men suicides and 295 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 47.2 per 100,000 men and for women 11.4 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Finland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 156 homicides in Finland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 9.3 suicides.
