Suicides increase in Estonia

In 2012 occurred 239 suicides in Estonia. This year, 21 more people committed suicide than in 2011.

Estonia had 18.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.87 suicides per 100,000 people.

Estonia is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 239 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 192 were men suicides and 47 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 31.43 per 100,000 men and for women 6.8 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Estonia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 63 homicides in Estonia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.8 suicides.
