Number of suicides falls in Estonia

In 2011 occurred 218 suicides in Estonia. This year, 5 fewer people committed suicide than in 2010.

Estonia had 16.35 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Estonia is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 218 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 178 were men suicides and 40 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 28.6 per 100,000 men and for women 5.65 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Estonia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 65 homicides in Estonia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.4 suicides.
