Estonia has a very high suicide rate

In 1993 around 579 suicides occurred in Estonia, 82 more than in 1992. In Estonia, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Estonia reported 38.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.86 suicides per 100,000 people.

Estonia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 579 recorded suicide cases in 1993, 457 were men suicides and 122 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 65.8 per 100,000 men and for women 15.3 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Estonia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 282 homicides in Estonia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.1 suicides.
