Estonia has a very high suicide rate

In 1992 occurred 497 suicides in Estonia. This year, 70 more people committed suicide than in 1991. In Estonia, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Estonia had 32.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.38 suicides per 100,000 people.

Estonia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 497 recorded suicide cases in 1992, 376 were men suicides and 121 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 52.6 per 100,000 men and for women 14.8 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Estonia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 217 homicides in Estonia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.3 suicides.
