Egypt - Intentional self-harm

In 2010 occurred 2,027 suicides in Egypt. This year, 53 more people committed suicide than in 2009. In 2010, on average 6 Egyptians committed suicide every day.

Egypt had 2.58 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Egypt has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 2,027 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 1,399 were men suicides and 628 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 3.17 per 100,000 men and for women 1.46 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Egypt suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 1,839 homicides in Egypt, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
