Of the 603 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 489 were men suicides and 114 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.78 per 100,000 men and for women 2.33 per 100,000 female.
Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Dominican Republic. However, in Dominican Republic in 2011 there were there were 2,513 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 4.2 homicides per suicide.
