Number of suicides increases in Denmark

In 2012 around 659 suicides occurred in Denmark, 61 more than in 2011. In Denmark, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Denmark reported 11.82 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.87 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 659 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 493 were men suicides and 166 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.78 per 100,000 men and for women 5.92 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Denmark suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 47 homicides in Denmark, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 14 suicides.
