In 2012 occurred 1,573 suicides in Cuba. This year, 31 fewer people committed suicide than in 2011. In 2012, on average 4 Cubans committed suicide every day.

Cuba had 13.91 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.87 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,573 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 1,267 were men suicides and 306 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 22.45 per 100,000 men and for women 5.41 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Cuba suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 621 homicides in Cuba, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.5 suicides.
