Of the 1,088 recorded suicide cases in 1993, 776 were men suicides and 312 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 35.1 per 100,000 men and for women 13.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Croatia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 218 homicides in Croatia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5 suicides.
