Croatia has a very high suicide rate

In 1990 occurred 1,142 suicides in Croatia. This year, 100 more people committed suicide than in 1989. In 1990, on average 3 Croatians committed suicide every day.

Croatia had 23.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 14.95 suicides per 100,000 people.

Croatia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,142 recorded suicide cases in 1990, 810 were men suicides and 332 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 35 per 100,000 men and for women 13.5 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Croatia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 137 homicides in Croatia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 8.3 suicides.
