Costa Rica has a low suicide rate

In 1996 around 210 suicides occurred in Costa Rica, 1 less than in 1995.

Costa Rica reported 6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.06 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Costa Rica has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 210 recorded suicide cases in 1996, 186 were men suicides and 24 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.4 per 100,000 men and for women 1.4 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Costa Rica suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 189 homicides in Costa Rica, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
