In Costa Rica there were 4.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.83 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Costa Rica has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 164 recorded suicide cases in 1994, 135 were men suicides and 29 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8 per 100,000 men and for women 1.8 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Costa Rica. However, in Costa Rica in 1994 there were there were 182 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.1 homicides per suicide.
