Costa Rica has a low suicide rate

In 1993 around 165 suicides occurred in Costa Rica, 12 more than in 1992.

Costa Rica reported 5.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.86 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Costa Rica has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 165 recorded suicide cases in 1993, 138 were men suicides and 27 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.4 per 100,000 men and for women 1.7 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Costa Rica suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 160 homicides in Costa Rica, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1 suicides.
