Costa Rica has a low suicide rate

In 1992 occurred 153 suicides in Costa Rica. This year, 23 more people committed suicide than in 1991.

Costa Rica had 4.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.38 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Costa Rica has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 153 recorded suicide cases in 1992, 130 were men suicides and 23 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.1 per 100,000 men and for women 1.5 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Costa Rica. However, in Costa Rica in 1992 there were there were 160 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1 homicides per suicide.
