Costa Rica has a low suicide rate

By 1990, suicides in Costa Rica increased by 11 people to at 159 suicides

In Costa Rica there were 5.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.95 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Costa Rica has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 159 recorded suicide cases in 1990, 141 were men suicides and 18 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.2 per 100,000 men and for women 1.2 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Costa Rica suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 139 homicides in Costa Rica, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
