Colombia has a low suicide rate

In 1991 around 1,020 suicides occurred in Colombia, 140 more than in 1990. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Colombia reported 2.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.11 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Colombia has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,020 recorded suicide cases in 1991, 805 were men suicides and 215 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 4.7 per 100,000 men and for women 1.2 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Colombia. However, in Colombia in 1991 there were there were 28,424 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 27.9 homicides per suicide.
