In 2012 occurred 133,389 suicides in China. This year, 1,843 more people committed suicide than in 2011. In 2012, on average 365 Chinese committed suicide every day.

China had 9.85 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.87 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 133,389 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 74,315 were women and 59,074 were men. More women than men die by suicide each year, and is among the few countries where the female rate is higher than the male rate.11.26 women per 100.000 female cause their own deaths and 8.51 men per 100.000 male. and it is also one of the countries with the highest rate of female suicides in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In China suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 11,286 homicides in China, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 11.8 suicides.
