In 2011 around 2,027 suicides occurred in Chile, 26 more than in 2010. In 2011, on average 6 Chileans committed suicide every day.

Chile reported 11.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 2,027 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 1,657 were men suicides and 370 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 19.5 per 100,000 men and for women 4.2 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Chile suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 636 homicides in Chile, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.2 suicides.
