Chile has a low suicide rate

In 1989 around 725 suicides occurred in Chile, 28 more than in 1988. In Chile, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Chile reported 5.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.93 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Chile has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 725 recorded suicide cases in 1989, 626 were men suicides and 99 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.8 per 100,000 men and for women 1.5 per 100,000 female.
