In 1991 occurred 3,593 suicides in Canada. This year, 214 more people committed suicide than in 1990. In 1991, on average 10 Canadians committed suicide every day.

Canada had 12.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.11 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 3,593 recorded suicide cases in 1991, 2,875 were men suicides and 718 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20.7 per 100,000 men and for women 5.1 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Canada suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 754 homicides in Canada, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.8 suicides.
