Suicides increase in Burundi

In 2012 occurred 858 suicides in Burundi. This year, 18 more people committed suicide than in 2011. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Burundi had 9.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.87 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 858 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 641 were men suicides and 217 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.21 per 100,000 men and for women 4.39 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Burundi suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death.
