Brazil has a low suicide rate

In 1996 occurred 6,738 suicides in Brazil. This year, 154 more people committed suicide than in 1995. In 1996, on average 18 Brazilians committed suicide every day.

Brazil had 4.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.06 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Brazil has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 6,738 recorded suicide cases in 1996, 5,332 were men suicides and 1,406 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.5 per 100,000 men and for women 1.7 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Brazil. However, in Brazil in 1996 there were there were 38,894 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 5.8 homicides per suicide.
