Number of suicides increases in Botswana

In 2011 around 216 suicides occurred in Botswana, 8 more than in 2010.

Botswana reported 10.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 216 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 164 were men suicides and 52 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.63 per 100,000 men and for women 4.76 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Botswana. However, in Botswana in 2011 there were there were 303 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.4 homicides per suicide.
