Belgium had 21.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 15.58 suicides per 100,000 people.
Belgium has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 2,155 recorded suicide cases in 1995, 1,550 were men suicides and 605 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 31.3 per 100,000 men and for women 11.7 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Belgium suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 142 homicides in Belgium, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 15.2 suicides.
