Number of suicides falls in Armenia

In 2012 occurred 159 suicides in Armenia. This year, 4 fewer people committed suicide than in 2011.

Armenia had 5.27 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.87 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 159 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 127 were men suicides and 32 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.52 per 100,000 men and for women 2.03 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Armenia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 65 homicides in Armenia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.4 suicides.
